To celebrate STEM Day today (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), the whole school explored the theme of sustainability - clever resourceful design to meet our needs as well as future generations. During the day we developed our curiosity to innovate and find solutions through discussion, videos and sharing ideas. We were excited to present our work to families on exhibition at the end of the day - thank you for coming along.
- Early Years: The Sustainability Squad showed us how to recycle, make our own paper and not be wasteful.
- Year 1: We explored materials for strength and built our own bridges.
- Year 2: We investigated the size and shape of bubbles and designed our own bubble wands.
- Year 3: We experimented with balloon rockets and explored forces to make things move faster.
- Year 4: We built and adapted simple electrical circuits to light a bulb.
- Year 5: We designed a structure to protect an egg during an egg drop.
- Year 6: We carried out a scientific investigation to solve real world problems (such as insulation or water filtration) and presented our findings.
Year 2 visit to Clacton on Sea

Year 2 had a wonderful time at Clacton-on-Sea! We enjoyed a fantastic day at the beach, taking part in sandcastle building, beach games and spending time together by the seaside. We especially loved paddling their feet in the sea, burying ourselves in the sand and making happy memories with our friends. A huge thank you to FOW for contributing towards the cost of the trip!

Year 6 stepped out of the classroom and straight into the moody, magical highlands of Scotland for our incredible Play-in-a-Day production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth!
We took turns in the Hall and Media Hub to work through high-energy drama workshops and back in the classrooms the creative buzz didn't stop. We turned into directors, set designers, and actors - fairly casting our acts, diving into video analysis, discussing the play's deep themes, crafting fantastic props and rapidly memorising our lines.
The day culminated in a spectacular, fast-paced final performance where we joined forces in the hall to piece the entire play together. From spooky witches and ambitious kings to marching forests and ghostly banquet guests, we showed immense teamwork, creativity, and confidence. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved!

Year 5 had a fantastic day at Kew Gardens as enrichment for Art and Science. We explored a wide variety of plants and discovered how living things adapt to different environments and climates. We also gathered inspiration from the natural shapes, textures, colours and patterns found throughout the gardens. One of the highlights of the visit was exploring the glasshouses, spotting unusual plants from around the world and walking amongst the treetops! The day encouraged creativity, curiosity and important discussions about conservation and protecting the natural world.

To kick start the Summer term, we enjoyed our wonderful Stay and Read sessions in school. We invited families into the classroom to explore our recommended reading books and celebrate a love of reading together. It was a fantastic opportunity to see children excited about books and to strengthen our reading community.

Year 6 had an unforgettable time at Danbury in Essex, fully immersed in outdoor activities. From building our own fires to tackling rock climbing, zip wire, vertical climbing and high ropes, we showed incredible bravery and determination. Throughout the trip, we developed teamwork, confidence and independence whilst supporting one another every step of the way. It was a fantastic opportunity to challenge ourselves, as well as learn team skills and life skills outdoors!
Year 2 visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum

Year 2 visited the Florence Nightingale Museum in London as enrichment for our History learning about this inspirational woman, fondly known as 'The Lady with the Lamp'. During the workshop and exhibition we explored how Florence Nightingale improved nursing, how hospitals have changed and why hygiene is important. We also enjoyed dressing up as Florence Nightingale!

Year 4 took part in an action packed Egyptian Day to learn more about life in Ancient Egypt for our History topic. We prepared a body to be turned into a mummy, investigated various Egyptian artefacts and scribed our names in Egyptian hieroglyphics using ink on papyrus. Later on in the day we played traditional Egyptian games and designed our own Egyptian city. It was a fantastic day and we looked amazing in our costumes!

Year 3 participated in an exciting volcano workshop as enrichment for our Geography learning about natural disasters. Using virtual reality headsets, we explored volcanoes around the world, learning how they are formed and how they erupt. It was a wonderful immersive experience to hover over active and dormant volcanoes!
Year 5 visit to Woodrow High House

Year 5 visited Woodrow High House in Amersham for an exciting two day programme of outdoor learning activities, solving problems and participating in physical team tasks. We challenged ourselves on the high ropes, with activities such as Jacob's Lader and the traverse challenge - building confidence, resilience and teamwork. We also took part in bushcraft, learning practical skills including how to safely light a fire, as well as a campfire in the evening.

Whitchurch celebrated World Book Day with a range of activities including special assemblies, buddy reading across year groups and an art activity linked to a focus reading book. We also brought in our favourite books to share and dressed in our pyjamas for the day!
Year 3 visit to the London Mithraeum Museum

Year 3 had an exciting and memorable trip to the London Mithraeum Museum as part of our learning about the Romans. We travelled back in time to explore the remains of a real Roman temple dedicated to the god Mithras, which was discovered right in the heart of the City of London. During our visit, we learned about how Romans lived, worshipped and built their settlements in Britain. We were fascinated to see the ancient artefacts found on the site and enjoyed experiencing the atmospheric temple reconstruction, which helped bring Roman London to life.

Year 5 visit to the Science Museum

Year 5 visited the Science Museum in London to explore a range of exhibitions relating to our learning, including forces and the human body. We also instructed a robotic hand to sort materials for recycling using our programming skills and investigated the mechanics of a clock, learning how gears work together to move the dials. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience!
Year 6 visit to London Central Mosque

Year 6 visited London Central Mosque to learn more about Islam and how Muslims show commitment to God.
Year 2 visit to Belmont Synagogue

Year 2 visited Belmont synagogue to learn more about Judaism. We listened attentively to the Rabbi and some of us helped him carry the Torah (the special scroll of Jewish rules and stories) from the Ark. We were fascinated with the Ner Tamid (‘eternal light’), which never goes out - a reminder that God is always present. We learnt that the synagogue is a special place for prayer and study for the Jewish people of Stanmore.
Year 6 visit to the Natural History Museum

Year 6 children visited the Natural History Museum to explore exhibitions and participate in an informative and interesting workshop related to our Science topic ‘Evolution and Inheritance’.

Year 4 participated in a creative African Day featuring artist Gakonga. We thoroughly enjoyed creating African art using paint and stencilling techniques on cloth and also took part in African dance and music making! It was a great way to enrich our topic 'Journeys'.
Year 1 visit to Stanmore Baptist Church

Year 1 had a wonderful visit to Stanmore Baptist Church to learn more about Christmas. We were warmly welcomed and treated to hot chocolate before settling in to watch a delightful retelling of the Nativity story. Reverend Anne spoke to us about the true meaning of Christmas - reminding us that it is not only abut unwrapping presents, but also about Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus. Her message encouraged us to think about kindmess, generosity and love during this festive time. Thanks to Stanmore Baptist Church for hosting us and making us feel welcome!

Year 3 took part in a hands-on workshop with a special Stone Age visitor! We tried our hand at archery, crafting weapons and cave painting; we also investigated animal bones and explored a range of artefacts. It was a great way to enhance our learning of this key period of history.

'The Mozartists' visited Whitchurch to share a wonderful music workshop with Year 4, bringing classical music to life! We were captivated by the music, singing and drama exercises, as welll as listening to the musicians perform for us.
Year 2 fieldwork visit to Stanmore

Year 2 went on a fieldwork visit of Stanmore to explore the human features of our local town - including shops, cafes, restaurants, a post office, churches and a dentist. We discussed what each feature is used for and its importance to the community. We also compared Stanmore to a coastal town to understand how places and can be similar or different to each other depending on their location.
Year 4 visit to St Paul's Cathedral

Year 4 had a wonderful visit St Paul's Cathedral, where we learned more about Bethlehem and used role play to bring the Nativity story to life. We explore the stunning interior, including it beautiful mosaics, and discovered how the cathedral was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London. We also visited the Whispering Gallery and climbed even high to the Stone Gallery - a total of 376 steps! It was an exciting and meaningful day which supported our learning in R.E. and History.
Year 6 Forensic Science Workshop

Year 6 children stepped into the shoes of real forensic investigators during an exciting hands-on Science workshop. Working in teams, we explore fingerprint analysis, fibre matching and crime-scene observation to solve a myster using scientific clubes. The workshop encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and careful attention to detail - skills that all budding scientists need. We were thoroughly engaged and inspired by the world of forensic science!

At Whitchurch we held a wonderful Cultural Creative Day to mark Black History Month. We dressed in the costumes and colours of our focus countries and learnt about their culture, food and music. We also created fantastic flags and factfiles!
