Physical Education
At Whitchurch, we believe that Physical Education should provide opportunities for children to become physically confident in order to support their health, wellbeing and fitness. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development. We aim to be inclusive and ensure that pupils of all abilities access the range of activities we offer and that they are physically active for sustained periods of time in order to encourage them to lead healthy, active lives.
“There’s no way around hard work. Embrace it.” Roger Federer
Through Physical Education we:
- boost academic outcomes from regular activity “a healthy mind in a healthy body” (Juvenal)
- encourage children to be creative, solve problems, and plan for the future
- encourage children to work together and address challenges while learning to communicate, show respect and manage risk and conflict
- build positive relationships and allow the children to gain confidence, self-awareness and self-belief
- encourage children to enjoy sport for life whether as a participant or as an observer
