On this page we provide some essential information to help you support us in school and also support your child at home. I update the Year 5 page each half term with news about our learning, any changes to our timetable or useful links that might help as we change topics and move forward with our learning. We very much see your chid's time in Year 5 as a partnership with parents so please do email if you have any queries.
Routines and Expectations
Drop off and Pick up.
In the mornings you drop your child at the school gate anytime between 8.40am and 8.55am. They make their own way into the classrooms via the patio doors. Year 5 have Early Morning Work and registration so we recommend an early drop off. Any child arriving after 9am is late. At the end of the day the gates are unlocked at 3.10pm, parents come into the playground and collect their children from the classroom patio doors; learning time ends at 3.25pm, doors will open after this time.
Reading at home every day for at least 30 minutes is an absolute expectation in Year 5. The children can read with you, to you, by themselves or with a sibling, the most important element is that you discuss the book with your child to check their comprehension. We recommend using the inference questions sheet to help create more challenging questions. Please sign every day - or at least weekly - to show that you are reading with your child. Children need to bring their homework diaries into school daily. Diaries are checked every Monday but may be required on other days for messages home etc.
Remember children come to school wearing their PE kit. Year 5's PE days in the Autumn term are:
Homework is set every Friday using DB primary (A link can be found on this website under Our Learning/Helpful websites/children) and it is always due in on the following Tuesday. The homework will alternate between maths and English. The children also have other work which we encourage them to complete a little every day.
- Weekly spellings
- Mathletics - we expect children to do approximately 10 minutes every day.
- Times Table Rock Stars - this is particularly essential for those children who need to improve their times table fluency.
